چکیده

We address the problem of Blind Source Separation (BSS) of superimposed images and, in particular, consider the recovery of a scene recorded through a semirefective medium (e.g. glass windshield) from its mixture with a virtual reflected image. We extend the Sparse ICA (SPICA) approach to BSS and apply it to the separation of the desired image from the superimposed images, without having any a priory knowledge about its structure and/or statistics. Advances in the SPICA approach are discussed. Simulations and experimental results illustrate the efficiency of the proposed approach, and of its specific implementation in a simple algorithm of a low computational cost. The approach and the algorithm are generic in that they can be adapted and applied to a wide range of BSS problems involving one-dimensional signals or images.

On Separation of Semitransparent Dynamic Images from Static Background

Presented here is the problem of recovering a dynamic image superimposed on a static background. Such a problem is ill-posed and may arise e.g. in imaging through semireflective media, in separation of an illumination image from a reflectance image, in imaging with diffraction phenomena, etc. In this work we study regularization of this problem in spirit of Total Variation and general sparsifyi...

Speech enhancement based on hidden Markov model using sparse code shrinkage

This paper presents a new hidden Markov model-based (HMM-based) speech enhancement framework based on the independent component analysis (ICA). We propose analytical procedures for training clean speech and noise models by the Baum re-estimation algorithm and present a Maximum a posterior (MAP) estimator based on Laplace-Gaussian (for clean speech and noise respectively) combination in the HMM ...

Sparse Coding for Convolutive Blind Audio Source Separation

In this paper, we address the convolutive blind source separation (BSS) problem with a sparse independent component analysis (ICA) method, which uses ICA to find a set of basis vectors from the observed data, followed by clustering to identify the original sources. We show that, thanks to the temporally localised basis vectors that result, phase information is easily exploited to determine the ...

Sparse Kernel Independent Component Analysis for Blind Source Separation

We address the problem of Blind Source Separation (BSS) of superimposed signals in situations where one signal has constant or slowly varying intensities at some consecutive locations and at the corresponding locations the other signal has highly varying intensities. Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is a major technique for Blind Source Separation and the existing ICA algorithms fail to est...

Efficient Visual Coding: From Retina To V2

The human visual system has a hierarchical structure consisting of layers of processing, such as the retina, V1, V2, etc. Understanding the functional roles of these visual processing layers would help to integrate the psychophysiological and neurophysiological models into a consistent theory of human vision, and would also provide insights to computer vision research. One classical theory of t...
